Then and Now

Jack and Ginger have been my cat clients for a number of years and this weekend is the first time that I have seen them in about a year. I always look forward to seeing this pair and their pet mom tells me they look forward to seeing me as well. About a year ago I spent a little over two months visiting them everyday so we definitely developed a strong bond, which did not disappear. They both have great personalities and don’t mind the camera, however Ginger is much less camera-shy than Jack. I started to go through some of the early photos to see how they have changed over the years, and besides Ginger being slightly bigger (aka more cat to love) much of who they are has stayed the same.

Black Cats Orange Box

Cat sitting season has begun and this week I got to watch my favorite handsome black cat duo Bodie and JR. If you follow my Instagram feed you will often see pictures of my cat clients including these two. JR is quit memorable as he always has the look of shock on his face. Black cats orange box, one winner.

Caturday Tribute – Cecilia

Today’s post was one I was not planning on, however with a very recent and unexpected loss I felt that it was a small way I could pay tribute to a cat named Cecilia or CC for short.

Every cat is an individual so the connection I make varies with each one I meet when pet sitting. In CC’s case having to work for acceptance and trust made the relationship even more rewarding.

The Tumbleweeds – my nickname for her and her brother Oscar

CC rolls over on her back during play time with Oscar her more outgoing brother

I gladly went through CC’s approval process before she decided that I was an acceptable substitute for mom every time I watched her and Oscar. Patience, treats and playtime helped the process along and usually by a few days in CC would give me her paw of approval.

I would be rewarded with little kisses, an exposed cat belly which I could rub and little mews of protest when I had to leave. She would sometimes sit next to me and of course I would freeze, afraid to move and disturb her!

You have earned my trust human

CC was a sweet and gentle girl, and when she managed to get close to me, her expression was one of “I am watching you, I like you but I am watching you!”

Pet loss will never be easy and almost all of us have been through it or will be. Sharing these photos is my way of honoring and remembering the fluffy, sassy CC who loved to chase crinkle balls and eat treats. She will always be loved and never forgotten.

The Monroe Montage

My friend’s had been taking care of a couple of strays in their neighborhood when a small group of black and white cats showed up at their back door. They started feeding them and proceeded to have all the cats vetted and adopted out, all except this extremely intelligent and soulful male which they had named Monroe. He obviously loved being in their backyard, getting three meals a day and lots of attention, however he showed little interest in coming inside.

Are you impressed by my agility and balance?

That all changed last summer when I was visiting and Monroe decided to follow me inside the house and proceeded to sit with me on the couch like it was all routine…my friends, who became his official pet parents, were in awe. Monroe, aka Tori’s cat because I was the one who brought him in, got a wonderful home and now I get to cat sit for him whenever my friends are on holiday.

Little Leopard

I recently had the pleasure of cat sitting my first Bengal named Myko. For those who follow my Cat-stagram feed you will have seen some videos I took of this handsome boy.

Myko was a joy to visit every day and he always had something to say (big talker). Highly intelligent and almost dog like Myko would follow me around and wait for his opportunity to sit on my lap, usually upside down. He is also a very curious, active cat and loved his supervised outdoor time in the garden.

The Bengal coat comes in a multitude of beautiful colors and some coats can be spotted, marbled or have rosettes.  “The Bengal was developed to try to meet that desire for a wild look in a safe way by crossing small wild Asian Leopard Cats and domestic shorthairs. Jean S. Mill began the Bengal breeding program in 1963, and Bengals today descend from cats bred by her in the early 1980s.”

The Bengal is a gorgeous, active, intelligent cat that needs lots of interaction and attention. Before considering this breed do your research first as the Bengal is not for everyone. If you decide to bring a Bengal into your life please check rescues, consider fostering and or adoption from your local animal shelter as they will turn up in the shelter system, either due to owner surrenders, abandonment or as strays.
